Air Traffic Management

Air Traffic Services (ATS)

BULATSA is responsible for the provision of air traffic services over an area of approximately 145,000 square kilometres. En-route services are provided by two Area Control Centres (ACCs) - Sofia and Varna. 306,000 overflying civil aircraft were serviced in 2004 without any ATM induced delays.

Airspace Management (ASM)

The concept of the Flexible Use of Airspace (FUA) was introduced in the Republic of Bulgaria in 1999.The basic objective of FUA is the more efficient use of the airspace, meeting the needs of all civil and military users.


Civil aviation meteorological services in the Republic of Bulgaria are provided according to the standards and the recommended practices of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO).

Aeronautical Information Services (AIS)

The Aeronautical Information Service in the Republic of Bulgaria is provided by the Aeronautical Information Service (AIS) Department of BULATSA. The Republic of Bulgaria is responsible for the aeronautical information published.
